Can My Darts Be Converted for Screw Point Conversion?

If you are wondering whether your darts can be converted for Screw Point Conversion, this guide will help.
At Tiger Darts, we are regularly asked which darts are suitable for dart point conversion, which steel tip darts qualify, and whether certain barrels can be converted safely. To make things clearer, we have put together this simple guide to the general suitability rules for Screw Point Conversion.
If you are considering sending your darts in, here is what you need to know.
Tiger Screw Point Conversion is for steel tip darts only
The first rule is the most important one.
Tiger Darts Screw Point Conversion is only available for steel tip darts.
We do not convert soft tip darts.
If you are looking for a way to change or replace points on soft tip darts, there are separate kits available for that, but our Screw Point Conversion service is specifically for suitable steel tip dart barrels.
Which darts can be converted for Screw Point Conversion?
As a general guide, darts suitable for Screw Point Conversion will usually need to meet the following requirements:
- Steel tip darts only
- Minimum point-end width of 2.8mm
- Standard point hole of 2.35mm
- Standard 2BA thread at the stem end
These are the general suitability rules we use when assessing whether a set of darts is suitable for Screw Point Conversion.
What the Screw Point Conversion rules mean
If you are unfamiliar with the technical side of dart barrels, here is what those rules mean in practice.
1. Steel tip darts only
Our Screw Point Conversion service is designed for steel tip darts, not soft tip darts.
This is one of the most common questions we receive, so to be absolutely clear: soft tip darts cannot be converted through this Tiger Darts service.
2. Minimum point-end width of 2.8mm
For dart conversion to be carried out correctly, the point end of the barrel needs enough material.
If the point-end width is below 2.8mm, the barrel may not be suitable for Screw Point Conversion.
3. Standard point hole of 2.35mm
The dart also needs a standard point hole of 2.35mm.
This is an important part of compatibility for steel tip dart point conversion, and helps determine whether the conversion can be completed properly.
4. Standard 2BA thread at the stem end
Your darts should also have a standard 2BA thread at the stem end.
Many steel tip darts do, but not all darts are identical, which is why we always recommend checking first if you are unsure.
Broken points require additional work
If one or more of your darts has a broken point in the barrel, the set is not automatically suitable for standard Screw Point Conversion alone.
That is because removing a broken point is a different process from removing a normal standard point. Standard point removal is part of the Screw Point Conversion service, but extracting a broken section lodged inside the barrel takes additional time and a different process.
In these cases, you will also need to order our Broken Dart Point Removal service for however many points are broken.
For example:
- 1 broken point = Screw Point Conversion + 1 x Broken Dart Point Removal
- 2 broken points = Screw Point Conversion + 2 x Broken Dart Point Removal
- 3 broken points = Screw Point Conversion + 3 x Broken Dart Point Removal
If you think a point may be broken inside the barrel, or you are not sure what condition the darts are in, it is best to message us before ordering.
Do all steel tip darts qualify for Screw Point Conversion?
No, not every steel tip dart will automatically qualify.
Even if your darts are steel tip, Screw Point Conversion suitability can still depend on:
- barrel design
- barrel dimensions
- wear and tear
- previous damage
- whether any point sections are broken inside the barrel
- non-standard construction
That is why we describe these as general suitability rules rather than a guarantee that every steel tip dart can be converted.
Why some darts may not be suitable for conversion
Some darts may not be suitable for Screw Point Conversion if:
- they are soft tip darts
- the point end is too narrow
- the barrel does not meet standard dimensions
- there is damage, wear, or weakness around the point area
- one or more broken points are still lodged in the barrel - you'll need to order Broken Dart Point Removal too
- the dart has a non-standard design
If you are unsure whether your darts qualify, it is always best to check before placing an order.
How to check if your darts are suitable
If you want to know whether your darts can be converted, the easiest thing to do is message us before ordering.
We are always happy to advise.
To help us assess suitability, send us:
- a clear photo of the full dart
- a close-up of the point end
- a close-up of the stem end
- the brand and model, if known
This usually gives us a much better chance of confirming whether your darts are likely to be suitable for Screw Point Conversion.
